Various Roof Systems / Applications & Services
Asphalt Shingle Roofs
Shingles are by far the most popular and best performing application for a steep-sloped roof. Today, they are available in a wide variety of dimensional styles, sizes, designer colors with warranties ranging from 20 years to lifetime.
Roof shingles are a protective roof covering that consist of individual overlapping elements.
These elements are typically flat rectangular sectional pieces laid in rows from the bottom edge of the roof up, with each successive higher row overlapping the joints in the row beneath.
Shingles are now made from various materials, each with their own characteristics and benefits. Consult with Hissom Roofing Services for additional information about the type you would like installed.
New or Flat Roof Repair
There are several applications for low-slope roof systems. Listed below are some designed and specified to meet a broad range of waterproofing needs:
- Built-Up Roofing – Also known as BUR Roofs, these have been in use in the U.S. for more than a century. This type of roof system is commonly referred to as “tar and gravel” .
- Modified Bitumen – An evolution of asphalt roofing, made from asphalt and a variety of rubber modifiers and solvents. Excellent waterproofing characteristics.
- EPDM Roof Systems – An extremely durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) widely used in low-slope buildings. We prefer the excellence of TRUCO EPDM
- TPO / PVC Roofing – Designed to be an improved version of both PVC and EPDM rubber membranes, combing the benefits of both, but without the disadvantages. Highly resistant to ultraviolet light and chemicals.
Single Ply Roofing
These roofing membranes provide a variety of materials to choose from. Their main characteristic is that they are designed to be installed in one layer. They also exhibit great flexibility and they’re resistant to UV radiation, which is superior when compared to other products. It is usually in a black or white finish, and glued, fastened, or installed directly over roof insulation material.
Single-ply roof systems provide strength, flexibility, and long-lasting durability. The inherent advantages of pre-fabricated sheets are the consistency of the quality of the products that are manufactured, the versatility in attachment methods, and their broader applicability.
There are lots of different types of products that are considered to be single-ply. Consult with Hissom Roofing Services for additional information if needed.
Concrete Tiles & Clay Tile Roof Shingles
Although most homes in the USA use asphalt shingles, if you compare tile roofs to shingle roofs on a global scale, you’ll find that tile wins by popularity worldwide. Tile has been in use for several centuries, much longer than modern asphalt shingles.
In the USA, tile roofs are most commonly seen on homes in the South that borrow design cues from Spanish architecture. The roofing tiles themselves are generally made using terracotta or slate, and they are installed in parallel rows. They’re overlapped to keep them watertight.
The high weight and strength of this roof tile gives it good life. Most modern homes are built strong enough to support a tile roof, but there are also lightweight tile product options. Tile roofing can last for a century before it needs to be replaced, and most manufacturers offer 75-year warranties.
